Our Focus Areas

Maternal Nutrition

Nutrition Connect Tanzania’s interventions focus on improving the quality of maternal health care service delivery through antenatal care platforms of iron, folic acid, and zinc supplementation, and nutrition counseling particularly for pregnant and lactating mothers to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality rates in Tanzania.

Infant and young child Nutrition

NCT works closely with health facility workers and community health volunteers in strengthening their knowledge and skills to help mothers improve nutrition for themselves and their babies. In collaboration with government and partners NCT adopt and develops key nutrition messages on early and exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding and WASH to ensure children meet their nutritional requirements for optimal growth. These messages are also shared through different media to reach as many people as possible.

School-aged children

Our school-aged nutrition program aims at improving healthy food choices and physical activity as a way to improve their physical health, cognitive capacity, and prevention of non-communicable diseases. This program inspires children to eat a healthy diet and varieties of healthy foods while encouraging the right amount of calories and fat. It is integrated with school nutrition clubs, school gardening and WASH activities.

Adolescent Nutrition

NCT provides nutrition education, conduct nutrition assessment and counselling, promote physical activity and WASH to adolescent at schools and community to influence adoption of positive nutrition behaviours and determine their nutritional status

Men & women of reproductive age

NCT provide nutritional education, conduct nutritional assessment and counselling aiming at influencing healthy eating, physical activities and lifestyle behaviors modification to prevent diet related non-communicable diseases. On environmental component NCT ensures decision making involving nutrition educators, policy makers as well as other bodies to put into place environmental supports for action. CT also focus on empowering men to become more involved in nutrition issues and actively promote the positive roles of men in improving nutritional status in their communities.

Elderly Nutrition

NCT believes that during the “golden years,” good nutrition is just as important as ever. Many older people deal with a variety of chronic medical conditions, which can contribute to poor nutrition and can also be worsened by poor nutrition. NCT works in partnership with health professionals and other different stakeholders to provide nutrition education, screening and counseling and design personalized meal plans for those who may require them.
